Gifts From The Heart

This year I tried something different for Christmas. Everyone felt the need to work a tighter budget than usual. This provided an opportunity to get creative. It was important to me that everyone’s gifts were personal, memorable, and heartfelt. There are 3 gifts I was exceptionally proud of. I couldn’t wait for them to be unwrapped and received. I’d like to share these gifts with you.

For my sister, I wanted to gift her with a reminder of just how awesome she truly is. I purchased a beautiful, deep, white cup from the dollar store and wrote all over it with a black Sharpie. I wrote things that would make her laugh, things that would touch her heart, I wrote about the things that make her so perfectly her. Then I baked it at 350 for half an hour. I let it cool and filled it with kisses.

She loved it 🙂

My husband chose my sister-in-law in our gift exchange draw. We came up with two great gift ideas for her. She loves outdoorsy decor. Curtis cut a tree branch the size of coasters. He sanded them down, varnished them, and Voila! We had a beautiful set of wooden coasters!

She also had suffered a loss, there was someone she loved dearly who was spending their Christmas in Heaven. I tracked down a picture of her loved one, printed it on tissue paper and glued it to a candle. It was beautiful but missing something. I placed the candle into a vase and filled the bottom of that vase with episome salts. To add a little bling, I added small shiny Christmas ornaments into the vase. Nothing overpowering. Simplicity was key. I couldn’t have been happier with how it turned out.

And I couldn’t have been happier with the result. She loved it. It touched her heart ❤

The Ultimate Gift

Life is how you live it…not how you spend it

One of the highlights of the Christmas season for me is indulging in Christmas movies! There’s something so comforting and peaceful about curling up with my family beside a lit Christmas tree or near the roaring fire of the wood stove, and allowing myself to be whisked away into a good story. This year didn’t leave much time for Christmas specials. Lucky for me, I had picked one up at Wal-Mart on one of my far-too-many excursions. This one was called The Ultimate Gift. You’d never guess it, but I’m a sucker for stories of miracles, love, and inspiration 😉

The Ultimate Gift has become my new all-time favorite Christmas movie. It is a heartwarming drama based on the novel The Ultimate Gift by Jim Stovall. It is an inspirational story about a young man of privilege who, like many of us, takes his life for granted. He is rich, carefree, and careless. Living off a trust fund and having never worked a day in his life, Jason Stevens is spoiled and unmotivated with little regard for anyone or anything. When his Grandfather passes away, Jason inherits a series of gifts that promise to lead him to the ‘ultimate gift’.

Life shouldn’t be spent avoiding problems but welcoming them as challenges that will strengthen us so that we can be victorious in the future

Each gift is a task and is specifically designed to challenge Jason to grow as a man. It is through these tasks that Jason learns the Gift of Problems, the Gift of Work, the Gift of the Value of Money, the Gift of Friends,  the Gift of Family, the Gift of Laughter, the Gift of Giving, the Gift of Gratitude, the Gift of Dreams, the Gift of Love, and the Gift of a Day.

Any process worth going through will get tougher before it gets easier. That’s what makes learning a gift…even if pain is your teacher

Emily

For me the true gift in this story is the Gift of Emily. Emily is a young girl Jason meets on his quest for the ultimate gift. Emily is a spitfire of attitude with a heart of gold. Emily suffers from a rare form of leukemia and her only wish is for her Mother’s happiness. She quickly made her way into Jason’s heart … and mine as well.

I’m not sure if it was Emily’s story, or the heartache I felt for the families, the children, and the survivors of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, or perhaps more likely it was both…I’ve decided to write my second book, Letters From Heaven with love from your Child. My hope is that this book will in some small way provide even an ounce of healing to the hearts of parents who’ve suffered the tragedy of losing of a child, as Letters From Heaven Love Mom xo has for ‘children’ – both young and old – who are forced to live without the loving guidance of their Mother.

Come up with a dream and then act on it

Treat yourself to a gift that is sure to nourish your soul this season and find the time to accompany Jason on his quest for The Ultimate Gift ….Don’t forget the tissue!

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanuka, Joyeux Noel, Season’s Greetings,  Happy Holidays!

Thank you for sharing in my love of writing this year 🙂

Unique No-Fail Christmas Gifts

The gift giving season is upon us. Everyone’s running around with endless shopping lists and maxed out credit cards.

Am I the only one who thinks it’s time to reconsider this Xmas thing? …. OR maybe it’s time to start REMEMBERING….It’s Christmas!!!

There are 2 gifts at the top of everyone’s wish list that have been there for so long we all forget to include them. They are guaranteedtomakeanyonesmile, nofail gifts and can be tailored to suit any budget. With the cost of everything on the rise, these gifts can’t afford to be missed this year.

Compliments – Nowadays genuine compliments are relatively rare, found only in the souls with the purest of hearts.

Genuine compliments are one of life’s most soughtafter indulgences. A simple compliment can turn a mediocre day into a fabulous one. It can uplift spirits, and boost self-esteem in a single dose!

A compliment can be given on it’s own or presented in the form of a letter. Imagine the simplicity of it…..a sincere keepsake!

Be forwarned, once you start handing them out, they instill such a joyful feeling, it’s likely you may not ever be able to stop!

The second gift is Time. Also a rare treasure, Time is a sacred gift, it is also probably the most cherished of all gifts.

Time is a gift that creates memories. It is quite spectacular really, it’s reward is instantaneous and the memories can last a lifetime. Unique, exquisite and amusing. A winning combination – wouldn’t you agree?

Of course if neither of these gifts generate a smile for a certain someone, you could always point them in the direction of a fabulous feel-good blog such as this one where they can continue to constantly be reminded of their awesomeness 😉

May the spirit of Christmas fill your heart with enough love, hope and happiness to last the whole year thru!

I fully embrace your Awesomeness!

It’s your turn! Do you have any unique thoughtful gift ideas to share?
